We are pleased to announce that the Winged Fist Organization is now a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions in behalf of the Winged Fist Organization may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Celtic Park Plaque:
The Winged Fist Organization is currently in negotiations with the Celtic Park Co-op Board of Directors, to have a plaque mounted in honor of the Irish-American Athletic Club on the site of their former stadium, the Celtic Park apartments in Sunnyside/Woodside, Queens, N.Y. The co-op board has expressed reluctance to have a plaque mounted on the grounds of Celtic Park, so the Winged Fist Organization is not currently soliciting donations towards this effort, until this dispute is resolved.
If you would like to contact the co-op board to express your support for a plaque in honor of the Irish-American Athletic Club, write to: Celtic Park Co-op Board of Directors, 48-10 43rd Street, Woodside, N.Y., 11377, or contact the board's attorney, Mark Hankin, c/o Hankin & Mazel, 7 Penn Plaza, Suite #904, New York, N.Y 10001 or by phone at (212) 349-1688, Ext. 103. (If you do write a letter, please send a copy to the Winged Fist Organization at the address below).
Here is the design for the plaque we have proposed.
Support the Research of the Winged Fist Organization:
The Winged Fist Organization is accepting tax-deductible donations to support the continuing research of the athletes of the Irish-American Athletic Club, as well as other projects. One of our goals is to create an online digital archive of the New York City-based newspaper The Gaelic American. To read more about this effort, click here.
Winged Fist Exhibit:
Since its inception in August of 2008, the Winged Fist Organization has been able to locate numerous trophies and medals won by the members of the I-AAC (mostly in the private collections of the descendants of the I-AAC athletes). We hope to be able to create a museum-quality exhibit, devoted to the I-AAC, which could travel to appropriate venues around the U.S., U.K and Ireland. If you have any original items you think might be appropriate for this exhibit, please email: wingedfist@gmail.com
