Celtic Park Coop Board Refuses to Allow Plaque Honoring the Diversity and Achievements of the Irish-American Athletic Club

 

On Tuesday, May 8th, 2012, the NY Daily News Queens edition included a special adverising supplement in the, called "Shop Sunnyside." This "advertorial," sponsored by the Sunnyside Business Improvement Distrcit, or "Sunnyside Shines," included a lengthy article on the history of Celtic Park, and the Olympic champions of a century ago who made it world-famous: the Irish-American Athletic Club.

On Saturday, March 10th, 2012, the block running through the historic Celtic Park apartments in Sunnyside/Woodside Queens, was co-named "Winged Fist Way," in honor of the Irish-American Athletic Club, which once called Celtic Park home. For complete coverage of the event, see:
