Robert Edgren Cartoons from The Evening World
Robert W. Edgren was born in Chicago, on January 7, 1874 and died in Carmel, California on Sept. 9, 1939. Edgren was a member of the New York Athletic Club, and from 1897 to 1910 he competed in a variety of weight throwing events. He was a member of the 1906 U.S. Olympic team and competed in the shot put and discus throwing events (with Martin Sheridan of the Irish-American Athletic Club) in Athens, Greece. But he is better known as a cartoonist, writer and editor. From 1904 until the end of the First World War, Edgren was the sports editor and a columnist for The Evening World, a now defunct New York daily. Below are some of his cartoons related to the Irish-American Athletic Club and Celtic Park. (Click image below to enlarge).
